Greetings President Jean Bertrand Aristide:
We are the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement (MXGM). The MXGM is an organization of people of Afrikan descent in the United States who believe in self-determination, human rights, reparations and an end to sexist oppression. We combat genocide and fight for the freedom of political prisoners. We have organized in cities of the U.S. empire since 1990. Members of our organization have traveled to Haiti for years in solidarity with the Haitian people. One of our young comrades, Javad Jahi, who is now deceased, worked in solidarity with the grassroots movement in Haiti. He visited Haiti in 2007 and also attended the trial of Father Jean-Juste in Port au Prince. Brother Javad met an unexpected and untimely death in November 2009. In August we dedicated a delegation to Haiti in his honor, as he loved the Haitian people. At that time, we publicly opposed your banishment from your homeland and supported the consistent, popular demand of the Haitian people for you and your family’s speedy return. We also partnered with the Haiti Action Committee and Global Women’s Strike to build opposition to your banishment inside the U.S.
We are impressed with the Haitian people’s resilience and resistance to foreign occupation and oppression and historical fight for democracy and self-determination. You are part of the symbol of the resilience and resistance. Your courage and determination in the face of powerful foreign enemies and the predatory Haitian bourgeoisie is rooted in the historic fight of our Ancestors who fought the same forces to create Haiti in 1804.
We commit ourselves to building solidarity in the United States with the struggle of the Haitian people. We support the demand of the Haitian people to annul the results of the bogus “selections” (elections) of November 2010. We know the enemies of the Haitian people only want these “selections” to further exploit the labor and natural resources of the country. We see that the banning of Fanmi Lavalas from the recent elections was a violation of the principles of democracy and human rights. We oppose the occupation of Haiti by foreign armies. We call for the freedom of Haitian political prisoners and for France and the U.S. to pay restitution and reparations to Haiti for slavery and centuries of coercion, and economic exploitation.
We commit ourselves to fight for Haitian democracy and self-determination as We reside inside the United States. U.S. intervention has prevented Haitian people from managing their own affairs. We will organize our communities to challenge this abuse of the human rights of our Sisters and Brothers in Haiti. We will also continue to support grassroots organizations and institutions in Haiti.
