Martin Luther King Support for Labor Banquet-April 2, 2016

We are excited about our upcoming 33^rd Annual Martin Luther King Support for Labor Banquet on April 2. Our theme for this years’ gathering is “ Black Lives Matter at the Workplace Too. ” Our keynote speaker will be Bree Newsome the brilliant and courageous activist and cultural worker who in the wake of the Charleston Nine massacre took the confederate flag down from the South Carolina State Capitol.

There will also be cultural performances and the presentation of the 2016 Self-Determination Awards. The Political Landscape:

The central issue in the 2016 presidential and local election campaigns is NOT the Republican and Democratic Party candidates or even Bernie Sanders vs. Hillary Clinton. It is the growing economic and social crisis of the US capitalist system. Most important is the crisis’ devastating impact on workers, black and brown immigrants, Native Americans, women, the LGBTQ community, youth and the elderly.

Amid all the TV debates, news stories in the media, and billions of dollars spent by corporations and billionaires, workers, black and oppressed people have a human and fundamental democratic right to discuss and organize political campaigns to address our needs! We also have a right to discuss how our community, workplace and society should be run and even dare to organize and run it ourselves!

International Human Rights Day 2015:The Trump Danger and the Rising Tide of Racism

On December 10 people around the globe acknowledge International Human Rights Day, the date when the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the UN in 1948. People around the globe have reason to be concerned about the state of human rights. Raging wars, terrorist attacks, massive displacement, growing fascism, police murders, economic crisis and pending ecological disaster are the conditions that challenge all humanity.

BWFJ Mourns the loss of Mrs. Ruby Mayo-Presenté

The Black Workers for Justice is deeply saddened at the transition of Mrs. Ruby Mayo. She was our oldest member and an inspiration to all. She is the mother of Nathanette Mayo a BWFJ leader, grandmother of Angaza Samora, BWFJ youth leader, and mother-in-law of founder and leader Angaza Laughinghouse. A tribute prepared by Angaza:

DEAR FAMILY, FRIENDS, “BLACK WORKERS FOR JUSTICE”(BWFJ) members and fellow freedom fighters,

It is with much sorrow, I announce that our Mother Ruby Mayo transitioned to join our ” freedom fighter” ancestors. She passed away yesterday… Saturday morning…after a long illness. With her strong, purposeful and independent spirit,” she fought for life to the end of her 94 years…..not just her own life, but for her community, our people and all working people lives”. Black Solidarity with Palestine

Over 1,000 Black Activists, artists, scholars, students and organizations signed the 2015 Black Solidarity Statement with Palestine, including: Angela Davis, Cornel West, Mumia Abu-Jamal, Talib Kweli, The Dream Defenders, Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, Organization for Black Struggle-St. Louis.

The Black Workers for Justice was proud to be a signatory to this historic and important statement of solidarity.

Out of the terror directed against us—from numerous attacks on Black life to Israel’s brutal war on Gaza and chokehold on the West Bank—strengthened resilience and joint-struggle have emerged between our movements.
